The Al Stiefel Legacy Room

Those who knew RMAF founder Al Stiefel remember him for his spirit of inclusiveness and his passion for high quality sound. As one person put it, “... And that is what Al had made of all of us, friends, a community of great people who happen to be music lovers.”

In remembrance of Al, his wife, Marjorie Baumert, has decided to honor his life and his passion for music by donating an exhibitor room at this year’s Festival. “I think we could all agree that a large part of Al’s legacy was his inclusiveness and ability to welcome newcomers into the RMAF fold. He loved to champion the underdog with the great idea and applauded those who had the vision and bravery to take a chance. He really did celebrate sound in so many ways! Beginning this year, I would like to donate a room to a new manufacturer with an innovative product, or one who simply needs a little help this year. In future years, I hope those who are able will contribute to this effort. This year, though, it’s my gift to Al’s memory.”

RMAF 2009 will host the first annual Legacy Room in Al’s honor. The ideal candidate is a manufacturer, reseller or retailer that has an innovative product and would greatly benefit by achieving a foothold through an RMAF appearance, or a past exhibitor who may not have the means to exhibit this year.

If you would like to nominate a potential exhibitor, or apply yourself, click here for an application form. Please complete the form and submit it by June 15, 2009. The final selection will be made by members of the Colorado Audio Society, and the winner will be notified by July 1, 2009 via e-mail.

IMMACULATE VINYL RECORD CLEANING
According to Bill Utz
Self-Proclaimed MASTER of Record Cleaning

WHY SO CLEAN?
Any record, new or used, should be cleaned before play. New records have mold release compound and used records have every contaminant known to exist. The sheer force of the diamond stylus may drive these contaminants permanently into the vinyl, as the pressures at the diamond are significant.

Few audiophiles have heard an immaculately clean record. Chasing ever more expensive audio equipment to improve your listening experience has its merits, but nothing I have ever heard can match the vinyl for it faithfulness to the original source.
